What is Fashion Design?
Apparel is an integral part of our lives, constitutes major part of fashion along with accessories and life style products. It is essential for every fashion executive working at every level of the fashion industry to understand how fashion business developed. The historical reference will help them to make decisions for today and the future. It is indeed very interesting to see how ideas from the past are often reinterpreted for today’s fashion. “Fashion is reflection of the social ,political , economic and artistic forces of any given time ( Stephens Fringes) ". “ A design is a plan of actions, created in response to a situation or problem that needs solving” (Aspelund Karl ). Designing is forming ideas with the use of inspirations planning and explaining the execution of those ideas with the basis of evolution and revolution and ultimately translating those ideas to a realistic product. What is Textile Design?
The opportunity in fashion also expands its ingenuity and innovations in the areas of Textile Design with extremely exquisite Fabrics, wonderful Patterns and brilliant Print Designs. This course enables the learner to understand the depth of Yarn, Fiber, Fabric knowledge which extends the curriculum with the actual making of the Textile with the Technical and Technological inputs using various Computer Software’s. The contents of the course also helps the learners to comprehend the entire Process of how the Fabrics are woven, Knitted, Printed, Finished including the fundamentals like different types of Weaves, Dyes, Finishes, Printing methods, Machinery, Looms, Traditional Textiles and Embroideries, Design Development, Product Development, Yarn Craft, Term Project etc. Further, the learners also get a chance to employ their educational knowledge to the Commercial Markets in Textiles through Placements and Internships where they can gain Industrial experience in the departments like, Production, Designing, Printing, Weaving, Textile Technology.

Fashion Merchandising is planning, developing and presenting fashion product lines for identified target markets with regard to pricing, assorting , styling and timing. What is the eligibility criteria for bachelor programs and PG programs?
For U.G. Program – B. Design (Affiliated to S.N.D.T Women’s University, Mumbai) • XII Pass in any Stream – Arts/Commerce/Science/Home Science/ Minimum Competency Vocational Course (MCVC) including National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). • Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE)/ State Govt. Technical Education full time diploma of minimum 2 years after Std. X • For NRI & Foreign students with equivalence certificate from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi For Diploma Program – Fashion Design • XII Pass in any Stream • Including National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). For P.G. Diploma Programs • Graduate in any stream (10+2+3 or equivalent)
What is the age limit to apply for the course?
There is no age limit for the admission to courses. The students who are capable of attending the full time course and complete the practical & assignment work in time are eligible for the courses.

What is the admission test pattern?
For U.G. Program – B. Design (Affiliated to S.N.D.T Women’s University, Mumbai) General Ability Test - 60 Marks Studio Test / Group Discussions - 140 Marks Personal Interview - 50 Marks It is mandatory for all the candidates to give all three tests. For Diploma Program – Fashion Design • SOFT CET + Studio Test +Personal Interview Online Test Quantitative Aptitude 15 Questions 15 Marks Verbal/Non-verbal reasoning 15 Questions 15 Marks Analytical Ability 15 Questions 15 Marks Creative Ability 15 Questions 15 Marks TOTAL 60 QUESTIONS 60 Marks The candidates are directed to attempt all questions since there is NO NEGATIVE MARKING.

What is the procedure for counseling?
The counseling for the courses is done in person and telephonically for the outstation candidates. For telephonic counseling, the outstation applicants are suggested to take prior appointment.
What is the fee structure for each course ?

What is the extra expenditure and is it included in the fee structure?
The extra expenditure is on various non-consumable materials and consumables, industrial visits, fashion shows, design projects, presentations, etc. and it is not included in the fee structure.
Is the hostel available?
Hostel is available with Double / Triple accommodation with excellent facilities and infrastructure. Hostel accommodation is compulsory for the outstation students for first two years.
What are the facilities provided on campus?
The facility of state-of-the-art computer lab with unlimited internet facility, well-equipped machine lab, reading at library, scanning, canteen, primary medical services are provided on campus.
Are there any scholarships provided by the college?
The scholarships are given to the needy students. But the eligibility is decided by the management as per the norms laid down.
Are there any scholarship / concessions for the reserved category students?
The concessions to the reserved category students are available to the students of degree programs and only for students from Maharashtra State as per the norms laid down by Govt. of Maharashtra.
How are the students evaluated?
The students are evaluated on the basis of the assignments, written examinations, practicals, journals, presentations & projects, etc. and also on the basis of attendance for each subject.
What are the functions of Anti-Ragging Committee, Grievance Committee and Students’ Council?
SOFT strictly follows the rules & regulations of laid down by Supreme Court of India towards ragging. Grievance Committee follows the rules & regulations laid down by the SNDT University for any type of complaints. Students’ Council is a body of students comprising the representatives of all years and all courses and takes care of the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the college.
