The School of Fashion Technology initiated Project Astitva – Maharashtra Edition with a clear vision: to preserve authentic Indian crafts by safeguarding their original processes, sustainable materials, and deep-rooted contribution to social sustainability. Rooted in field-based research and artisan collaboration, Astitva stands as a meaningful intervention in the evolving landscape of traditional crafts.

Astitva as a Platform for Co-Creation
Project Astitva emerges as a response to this need. It offers a space where designers and artisans work together, supported by academic research from the School of Fashion Technology, to reinterpret Paithani, Khun and Karvat Kath, while respecting its authenticity. Through material innovation, process documentation, and thoughtful design interventions, Astitva aims to mitigate threats posed by mechanisation and material substitution, without compromising the craft's soul.
